The XV Arica y Parinacota Region is located at the extreme North of Chile, where it marks the border with Peru to the North, and Bolivia to the East. It's a beautiful region where the extreme aridity of the desert (one of the driest in the world) mixes with green valleys, charming beaches and the omnipresent Andes Cordillera. In the altiplano the Chungará lake is one of the highest in the world with an elevation of 4.515 meters (14.813 feet) above sea level.
It also features a great archaeological heritage, unique in the world: the Chinchorro culture, whose mummies are more than 8.000 years old. There, you will also find a great variety of handicrafts, music, tipical food and drinks inspired from cultures from the Andes. The capital is Arica.
